You may use wildcards in the rom_extension field. This will assist in building a single filtered list in the main interface (essentially filtering All Games lists). Roms will still execute correctly with the methods mentioned below.
Examples
To build a Verified Good Dump list for N64 (if your roms are in z64 format) from a Cowering Goodset
rom_extension *[!*z64
To build a USA only gamelist from a No-Intro rom set
rom_extension *(USA*zip
